Rookie Tyler Seguin collected two goals and two assists as the Boston Bruins scored five times in the second period and held on for a 6-5 home triumph over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals.
Michael Ryder scored twice, Nathan Horton had a power-play goal and two assists and David Krejci also found the back of the net for third-seeded Boston, which leveled the series at one game apiece. The teams will reconvene in the Sunshine State for Game 3 on Thursday.
Vezina Trophy finalist Tim Thomas overcame a rocky start in which he permitted a goal to Adam Hall just 13 seconds into the game to turn aside 36 shots.
After Hart Trophy candidate Martin St. Louis gave Tampa Bay a 2-1 lead with 6.5 seconds remaining in the first period, Boston responded with a flourish in following session.
Seguin skated in on a breakaway and backhanded the puck past a sprawling Dwayne Roloson just 48 seconds into the second period.
After Krejci gave Boston the lead just 96 seconds later after deflecting defenseman Dennis Seidenberg's slap pass into the vacant net for his sixth goal of the playoffs, Seguin added his third in two games by converting a 2-on-1 just 6:30 into the session.
Captain Vincent Lecavalier, who also had three assists, was able trim the deficit back to one at 4-3, but Ryder cleaned up a pair of rebounds in a 2:25 span to give Boston a comfortable three-goal advantage heading into the third period.
Steven Stamkos and Dominic Moore scored to close the gap in the third period, but fifth-seeded Tampa Bay could not net the equalizer.
Roloson stopped 21 of 27 shots before being relieved by Mike Smith, who stopped all eight shots he faced.
