Patriots 16, Raiders 9: Tom Brady passed for 234 yards and a touchdown as New England held off visiting Oakland.

Brady went 24-of-37 and found Julian Edelman 10 times for 84 yards as the Patriots (2-1) took their home opener. Rob Gronkowski caught the lone TD pass and Stephen Gostkowski converted three field goals as New England held the Raiders scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Sebastian Janikowski kicked three field goals for Oakland (0-3), which dropped to 1-13 in its last 14 road games. Rookie Derek Carr went 21-of-34 for 174 yards but was intercepted at New England's 10-yard line in the final minute to seal the Raiders’ fate.

The Patriots put together their best drive in the second quarter, marching 84 yards on 15 plays with Brady finding Gronkowski for a 6-yard TD. New England had another drive stall inside the 5-yard line just in front of the half and settled for a 21-yard field goal and a 10-3 lead at the break.

A pair of field goals from Janikowski in the third quarter cut the lead to 10-9, and the Patriots offense again stalled near the goal line early in the fourth as a 20-yard field goal spread it out to 13-9. Gostkowski’s 36-yard field goal with 6:20 to play pushed it to 16-9, and defensive tackle Vince Wilfork grabbed an interception off a tipped pass with 51 seconds left to end the Raiders' threat after Darren McFadden's apparent tying TD was negated by a holding penalty.
