Matt Cassel returned after missing one game following an appendectomy and tossed a touchdown pass to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a 27-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones each rushed for a touchdown and Ryan Succop kicked a pair of field goals for the Chiefs (9-5), who maintained their one-game lead over the San Diego Chargers in the AFC West.

Cassel found a groove in the second quarter, hitting Dwayne Bowe with a 28-yard pass to get Kansas City into the red zone. He then found Leonard Pope with a 2-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-6 lead.

Charles’ 2-yard scoring burst gave the Chiefs a 14-6 lead at the half and Succop’s field goals in the third made it 20-6.

The Rams (6-8) finally scored their first touchdown with 4:04 left in the game, but Kansas City responded immediately when Charles rushed for 80 yards on the next play and Jones pushed it across the goal line.

St. Louis is still very much alive in the lackluster NFC West and ends the season with two divisional games.
