Ryan Mathews rushed for 102 yards on 22 carries as San Diego held the ball for 38 minutes, 31 seconds.

Andrew Luck finished 18-of-30 for 202 yards with one interception and Adam Vinatieri kicked three field goals, including a 50-yarder on the final play of the first half and a 51-yarder that cut the deficit to 16-9 with 7:21 remaining. Reggie Wayne had five catches for 88 yards but Trent Richardson was limited to 40 yards on 10 carries for the Colts (4-2).

The only touchdown came when Rivers capped a 12-play, 74-yard drive by finding a diving Allen in the back of the end zone in the first three minutes of the second quarter. The Chargers ate up nearly eight minutes on a subsequent 17-play drive before settling for Novak's 31-yard field goal, but Luck got the Colts in position for Vinatieri's 50-yarder kick as time expired in the half to cut it to 10-6.

San Diego put together two more lengthy scoring drives - including one of 9:13 - in the second half but had to settle for field goals of 33 and 34 yards by Novak for a 16-6 lead with 9:43 left. Indianapolis got within a touchdown on Vinatieri's 51-yarder, but Novak connected from 50 yards with 1:55 to play to extend the lead to 10 points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Wayne became the ninth receiver in history to reach 1,000 receptions - he has 1,001 - and has caught a pass in his 118th consecutive game, the third-longest active streak in the league. ... Mathews, who was knocked out of last week's game with a concussion, had his first 100-yard game since Dec. 11, 2011. ... LB Jerrell Freeman left the game in the third quarter due to a concussion for the Colts, who matched their lowest point total in Luck's two seasons.
