Ryan Succop booted his third field goal of the game with 7:41 left and the Kansas City Chiefs held on for a 16-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

The Chiefs improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2005 despite not scoring an offensive touchdown. The lone Kansas City score came on a 33-yard interception return by Brandon Flowers.

Succop’s 23-yard field goal capped a 14-play, 68-yard drive and proved to be the difference.

Thomas Jones ran for 82 yards on 21 carries, helping Kansas City run out the clock.

Seneca Wallace, who started in place of the injured Jake Delhomme, gave the Browns (0-2) a 14-10 lead with a 65-yard touchdown pass to Josh Cribbs with 8:53 left in the second.

That was all the Browns’ offense could muster, however. Jerome Harrison, who ran for 286 yards – the third-highest total in league history – against Kansas City last season, was held to 33 yards on 16 carries and lost a fumble.

Cleveland was held to 73 yards rushing overall in what turned out to be a much lower scoring affair than last year’s shootout in Kansas City, won by the Browns 41-34.

Wallace finished 16 of 31 for 229 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
