The battle for Sunshine State supremacy became clearer Saturday as Miami defeated rival Florida State 27-10 in Atlantic Coast Conference action in Tallahassee, Fla.

Jarren Williams passed for 313 yards and two touchdowns and the Hurricanes limited the Seminoles to 203 total yards.

Miami (5-4, 3-3 ACC) improved to 1-1 in the Sunshine State rivalry, including a season-opening loss to Florida. Florida State (4-5, 3-4) is 0-1, while the Gators are 1-0 and host the Seminoles on Nov. 30.

Alex Hornibrook, making his second career start for the Seminoles after a 35-17 win against Syracuse last week, struggled all day. He was sacked eight times -- including four by defensive end Greg Rousseau. Linebacker Shaq Quarterman led the Hurricanes with nine tackles and the Miami defense finished with nine sacks, 16 tackles for loss and two interceptions.

Williams' TD tosses went to receivers Jeff Thomas for 39 yards and running back Dee Wiggins for 56. DeeJay Dallas led the Hurricanes' rushing attack with 61 yards and a touchdown.

Fresh off his four-touchdown performance last week against Syracuse, Florida State running back Cam Akers was held to 66 yards rushing. He did record the Seminoles' only touchdown in the third quarter on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Hornibrook that cut the Miami lead to 17-10.

Florida State's defense was led by linebacker Emmett Rice with seven tackles.

The Seminoles will try to rebound next week when they travel to Boston College, while Miami will host Louisville next Saturday.

With Saturday's win, Miami now leads the all-time series with Florida State 34-30.
