PROVO, Utah -- Tyler Huntley completed 27 of 36 passes for 300 yards on while adding 89 yards and a touchdown on the ground to lift Utah to a 19-13 win over BYU on Saturday night.

The Utes (2-0) held off a late comeback attempt by BYU to win their seventh straight game in the series. It is the first time Utah has won seven straight over the Cougars since winning seven in a row from 1951 to 1957.

Trailing by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, BYU cut it to 19-13 on a 7-yard pass from Tanner Mangum to Trey Dye with 2:38 left.

The Cougars earned a comeback chance after stuffing Zach Moss for a 5-yard loss on fourth-and-1 with 5:51 remaining after Utah marched into the red zone.

The Utes went 3-and-out on their next drive and BYU got the ball back with 1:34 left and had a chance to take the lead. Beau Tanner dropped a pass on third down that would have gotten a first down and the Cougars turned it over on downs on the next play.

Mangum threw for 170 yards and a touchdown on 21-of-39 passing but also had three interceptions.

BYU (1-2) gained only 233 yards on offense compared with 430 total yards for Utah.

Utah jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on a 21-yard field goal from Matt Gay. Boobie Hobbs set it up when he picked off a pass from Mangum and returned it to the BYU 9-yard line.

The Utes added a 25-yarder and 31-yarder from Gay in the second quarter to extend their lead to 9-0 going into halftime.

BYU and Utah both had second quarter touchdowns wiped off the board because of penalties.

Talon Shumway hauled in a 3-yard catch for the Cougars, only to have it taken away because of offensive pass interference on Aleva Hifo. BYU settled for a 270-yard field goalattempt by Rhett Almond, but he missed it wide left after a bad hold.

Utah marched down inside the BYU 5-yard line on the ensuing drive, after Siaosi Wilson hauled in a 48-yard pass to get into Cougar territory. Darren Carrington scored on a 2-yard catch a few plays later, but the play was negated by offensive pass interference from Wilson.

Utah forced turnovers on each of BYU's first two drives to open the third quarter.

Filipo Mokofisi hauled in a batted pass and returned it to the Houston 23 yard-line. It set up a 5-yard run on a keeper by Huntley that put the Utes up 16-0. Then Utah came away with another interception on BYU's ensuing drive when Jaylon Johnson snagged an errant pass along the sideline.

Fred Warner made up for the turnover by recovering a fumble from Huntley on the very next play. It set up a 1-yard scoring run by Ula Tolutau, cutting Utah's lead to 16-6 with 9:47 left in the third quarter.

Utah finished with 11 penalties for 97 yards, the second straight game with 11 penalties for the Utes.
