No. 10 Georgia 55, Charleston Southern 9: Hutson Mason threw three touchdown passes and Nick Chubb rushed for two scores as the host Bulldogs cruised to their eighth victory in the past nine games.

Mason completed 10-of-12 passes for 187 yards in one half of work and freshman Chubb rushed for 113 yards – his sixth consecutive game of 100-plus yards – for Georgia (9-2), which needs a Tennessee victory Saturday night over Missouri to clinch a berth in the SEC championship game. Chris Conley caught two touchdown passes and backup quarterback Brice Ramsey added a TD pass.

The Bulldogs tuned up for next week’s rivalry contest with No. 16 Georgia Tech by scoring on their first five first-half possessions to build a 38-3 halftime lead against their FCS opponent. Christian Reyes rushed for 75 yards and a 2-yard touchdown for the Buccaneers (8-4), whose three-game winning streak ended after mustering just 211 yards of total offense.

Conley caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Mason one play after the Bulldogs recovered a fumble, and Chubb’s 83-yard TD run down the right sideline – the longest by a Georgia running back in 29 yards – put Georgia ahead 14-0 less than five minutes into the contest. Justin Scott-Wesley hauled in Mason’s 19-yard scoring pass five minutes later and Marshall Morgan’s 42-yard field goal pushed the lead to 24-0 after one quarter.

Chubb capped a 12-play, 77-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown with 9:08 left in the half, and Conley snagged a 23-yard TD pass from Mason with 4:18 remaining. David Kennedy’s 45-yard field goal with seven seconds left ended the shutout, but the Bulldogs continued the rout in the third on Ramsey’s 12-yard scoring pass to Jonathon Rumph, Morgan’s 27-yard field goal and Quayvon Hicks’ 33-yard run.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chubb’s first-quarter touchdown was the longest by a Bulldog since Tim Worley scored on an 89-yard run against Florida in 1985. Chubb has totaled 928 yards rushing and nine touchdowns in the past six games. … The Bulldogs rolled up 580 yards of total offense. … Ramsey finished 8-for-12 for 92 yards and an interception, which set up Reyes’ touchdown run with 9:55 to play.
