No. 8 Notre Dame 31, Syracuse 15: Everett Golson threw four touchdown passes as part of a record-setting day for the Fighting Irish quarterback in a mistake-filled win over the Orange at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Golson set career highs for completions (32-of-39), yards (362) and touchdown passes while coming within one of matching the FBS record of 26 consecutive completed passes. William Fuller racked up six catches for 119 yards and two TDs while Corey Robinson had eight grabs for 91 yards and a score for Notre Dame (4-0).

Syracuse (2-2) was unable to take advantage of five Notre Dame turnovers, including four by Golson, who entered Saturday with one turnover on the season. Terrel Hunt went 22-of-38 for 294 yards and added a rushing score for the Orange, who were led through the air by Jarrod West (eight catches, 103 yards).

Golson threw two TD passes to Fuller in the first 6 1/2 minutes of the second quarter to stake Notre Dame to a 14-0 lead before Syracuse got on the board with a 38-yard field goal late in the half. Golson found Robinson for an 8-yard score in the third quarter and later hooked up with Torii Hunter Jr. for a 13-yard scoring strike with 10:19 to play to make it 28-9.

Shortly after Golson's consecutive completions streak ended at 25, Syracuse safety Durell Eskridge intercepted the senior quarterback and sprinted 29 yards for the end zone with 5:09 to play, drawing the Orange within 28-15. However, Notre Dame recovered the onside kick and the Irish drove for a field goal to give them 30-plus points in each of their first four games for the first time since 1943.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The FBS record of 26 consecutive completed passes is held by East Carolina's Dominique Davis in 2011. ... Syracuse P Riley Dixon ran for 42 yards on a fake punt midway through the third quarter, making him the leading rusher for the Orange on the night. ... Robinson only had five catches in the first three games of the season.
