Ohio State trailed at the half for the second straight week but cut the deficit to 21-14 on a 53-yard slant and run from Barrett to Michael Thomas. Ohio State’s defense then forced turnovers on the next two Virginia Tech possessions and the Buckeyes took advantage of the second, as Ezekiel Elliott scored on a 15-yard option run to tie the score at 21 with 11:40 left.

Hodges caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Brewer with 8:44 left to give Virginia Tech a 28-21 lead. Joey Slye missed a 46-yard field goal with 3:06 left that would have extended Virginia Tech’s lead to 10, but Riley, who had replaced Kendall Fuller two plays earlier after Fuller suffered cramps, ran back the interception to seal the win.
