Missouri managed just 10 points on its first three trips inside the Kentucky 10-yard line, but the Tigers came out with a 20-10 win over the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in SEC action at Columbia, Mo.
Larry Rountree III ran for 126 yards and two touchdowns, Connor Bazelak completed 21 of 30 passes for 201 yards, and the Tigers' defense held Kentucky to 145 yards of total offense.
Missouri (2-2, 2-2 SEC) beat Kentucky (2-3, 2-3) for the first time since 2014 and ended a five-game Wildcats' winning streak in the series.
The Tigers dominated in time of possession with 43 minutes to Kentucky's 17, and gained 421 yards of total offense. The Wildcats passed for only 47 yards.
Joey Gatewood, a transfer from Auburn, led Kentucky's only scoring drive of the first half in the second quarter, temporarily replacing Terry Wilson. Matt Ruffulo hit from 50 yards for a field goal, making the score 7-3 after Rountree's first touchdown.
Missouri settled for a field goal before halftime after a first-and-goal at the 1-yard line. Then the Tigers opened the third quarter with a drive to the Kentucky 7-yard line before turning the ball over on downs.
Trailing 17-3 after Rountree's second score, the Wildcats put together a touchdown drive. Chris Rodriguez ran for 31 of his 48 rushing yards before Wilson connected with Josh Ali for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 13:14 to play in the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats had a chance to tie when they took possession with 11:09 remaining in the game, but were forced to punt. Missouri took over and ran more than seven minutes off the clock, with Rountree and Bazelak mainly running the ball in the 15-play drive from the Tigers 38 yard-line to the Kentucky 1.
Harrison Mevis made a 20-yard field goal with 3:07 to play, and the Tigers recovered a fumble moments later to seal their victory.
Kentucky safety Yusuf Corker led all defensive players with 16 tackles, two for loss, and a sack.
