Taulia Tagovailoa threw for 394 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for two more scores to lead Maryland to a wild 45-44 overtime win against Minnesota on Friday night in College Park, Md.

The sophomore quarterback completed 26 of 35 passes with one interception, and his 2-yard run in overtime put the Terrapins ahead 45-38. Maryland (1-1, 1-1 Big Ten) overcame a 17-point second-half deficit.

Minnesota (0-2, 0-2) answered in OT with Seth Green's 2-yard touchdown run, but kicker Brock Walker pushed the extra point wide right to allow Maryland to snap an eight-game losing streak dating to last season.

Gophers running back Mohamed Ibrahim, a Baltimore native, had career highs of 41 rushing attempts for 207 yards, and he tied the school record with four rushing touchdowns in a game. He looked like the game's big hero as he helped Minnesota rally from a 21-7 first-half deficit.

The teams combined for 1,126 total yards, 675 by the Terrapins, including a career-high 221 yards rushing from redshirt senior Jake Funk on 21 carries. Funk missed all of last season with a torn ACL. His 19-yard scoring run with just 3:38 to play in regulation capped the Terrapins' improbable comeback after Minnesota scored 31 unanswered points.

The Gophers trailed 21-7 following Tagovailoa's 76-yard touchdown pass to Jeshaun Jones with 2:24 left in the first quarter, but Minnesota rattled off the next 21 points to lead 28-21 at the half, Ibrahim slamming in from 1 yard with 2:46 to go. It was 21-14 when defensive tackle DeAngelo Carter intercepted a deflected pass to set up Ibrahim's third short scoring run.

For the second straight game, Maryland drove for a score on its opening possession, this time Tagovailoa cashing in on an 8-yard pass to Funk for a 7-0 lead, the culmination of an 11-play march. Tagovailoa escaped trouble in the backfield and dashed 39 yards for another score on the next possession. The sophomore quarterback rushed for 59 yards in addition to becoming Maryland's first 300-yard passer in a game since 2013.

It's the beginning of a big weekend for the Tagovailoas with older brother Tua scheduled to make his first NFL start Sunday for the Miami Dolphins.

Tanner Morgan was an efficient 10 of 15 for 189 yards for Minnesota, including a 39-yard touchdown to Chris Autman-Bell (four catches, 112 yards) to make it 35-21 with 11:54 remaining in the third period.

Maryland's Dontay Demus Jr. had seven receptions for 101 yards, including a 25-yard score with 13:14 left in the fourth quarter to make it 38-28. That TD started the comeback, the third largest in the fourth quarter (17 points) in the Big Ten since 2004.

Jones amassed 103 yards on three catches.
