Zach Wilson threw for a career-high 400 yards and matched his career best of four touchdown passes to lead No. 14 BYU to a 43-26 nonconference victory over host Houston on Friday night.
Wilson completed 25 of 35 passes as BYU improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2008. Dax Milne established career highs of nine receptions, 184 yards and three touchdowns, Masen Wake also had a scoring reception, and Lopini Katoa and Tyler Allgeier added rushing scores.
Clayton Tune completed 21 of 31 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a score as Houston (1-1) fell in the battle of teams nicknamed Cougars.
Kyle Porter rushed for 94 yards on 20 carries yards for Houston while Christian Trahan and Nathaniel Dell caught scoring passes.
BYU outgained Houston 478 to 438.
BYU trailed 26-14 in the third quarter before scoring the game's final 29 points.
Wilson's 2-yard scoring pass to Milne cut BYU's deficit to 26-21 with 53 seconds left in the third period.
BYU moved ahead when Wilson tossed an 8-yard shovel pass to Wake with 10:35 left in the game. Wilson followed by throwing a two-point conversion pass to Allgeier to give BYU a 29-26 advantage.
Nearly 7 1/2 minutes later, BYU tacked on another touchdown when Wilson tossed an 18-yard scoring pass to Milne to make it a 10-point margin. Allgeier added a 14-scoring run with 1:40 left.
Houston trailed 14-3 before the game was 11 minutes old and then ripped off 23 consecutive points.
Tune threw second-quarter touchdown passes of 20 yards to Trahan and 5 yards to Dell to push Houston into the lead, and Dalton Witherspoon drilled a 49-yard field goal as time expired to give Houston a 20-14 halftime lead.
Tune scored on a 5-yard scramble to make it 26-14 with 3:05 left in the third quarter. The ensuing two-point conversion attempt was intercepted by George Udo to leave Houston with a 12-point lead. The 16-play, 98-yard drive followed a mistake by Bryson Smith, who made a fair catch at the Houston 2-yard line.
Earlier, Witherspoon kicked a 27-yard field goal with 9:53 left in the first quarter to cap Houston's opening drive before Wilson tossed a 78-yard scoring pass to Milne on BYU's first offensive play. Katoa later scored from the 1 to make it an 11-point lead with 4:42 remaining in the stanza.
