Isaiah Hodgins caught three touchdown passes, and a 21-0 first quarter buoyed Oregon State to a 48-31 win over UCLA in their Pac-12 matchup at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., on Saturday.

The Beavers (2-3, 1-1 Pac-12) scored three touchdowns in the game's first 6:01, the last resulting from onside dropkick, to race ahead of the stunned Bruins. Quarterback Jake Luton found Hodgins from 4 yards out on the first score, then running back Artavis Pierce rushed for the second from 5 yards.

A face-mask penalty on Pierce's touchdown rush had Oregon State kicking off from midfield, and Beavers coach Jonathan Smith made the bold decision to call the rare dropkick. The decision was rewarded on the recovery and ensuing 27-yard strike from Luton to tight end Teagan Quitoriano.

Luton went 18-of-26 for 285 yards with five touchdown passes. His favorite target, Hodgins, made 10 catches for 123 yards. Luton tacked on a sixth score, slamming the door on the Bruins with a 19-yard touchdown run in the waning minutes.

UCLA (1-5, 1-2) settled in after the initial onslaught. Two weeks after rallying from a 32-point, third-quarter deficit at Washington State, the Bruins teased another colossal comeback when they twice cut the deficit to 10 points.

Quarterback Austin Burton -- starting in place of Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who sustained a leg injury in the second half of a 20-17 loss last week at Arizona -- rushed for one touchdown and passed to wide receiver Kyle Philips for another.

Running back Joshua Kelley ran for a score, and wide receiver Demetric Felton -- a star of the comeback at Washington State, but who played sparingly at Arizona -- rushed for 111 yards and a score.

Pierce led all ball-carriers with 119 yards rushing.

The win snapped a six-game Pac-12 losing streak for Oregon State, and marked just the second conference win for the Beavers since the conclusion of the 2016 season.
