Kyle Trask completed 18 of 20 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for one to lead No. 9 Florida to a 38-0 victory over visiting Towson on Saturday at Gainesville, Fla.
Kyle Pitts caught two scoring passes as the Gators improved to 5-0 for the first time since the 2015 squad won its first six contests. Dameon Pierce rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
Tom Flacco was 16-of-27 passing for 157 yards and two interceptions for Towson (3-2), which is ranked 10th in the FCS Coaches Poll. Flacco is the younger brother of Denver Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco.
The Gators outgained Towson 422-248 while forcing three turnovers and notching their second shutout of the season.
The Tigers had chances to avoid being blanked, but Flacco lost a fumble at the Florida 25-yard line in the first quarter (recovered by David Reese II), and Aidan O'Neill missed a 32-yard field goal in the second quarter and had his 47-yard, fourth-quarter attempt blocked by Adam Shuler.
Trask completed his first 15 passes while making his second career start.
Trask was 7 of 7 on Florida's first drive and culminated it with a 5-yard scoring toss to Pitts.
The Gators increased their lead to 10-0 on the first play of the second quarter when Evan McPherson made a 42-yard field goal. The ball hit the right upright and caromed through the posts.
Trask scored from the 1 to increase the margin to 17 with 3:46 left in the half.
A Towson turnover set the stage for Florida's first second-half touchdown. Flacco's pass was deflected by Tedarrell Slaton and intercepted by Jonathan Greenard, who returned the ball 16 yards to the Tigers' 7.
Two plays later, Trask tossed a 7-yard scoring pass to Pitts to make it 24-0 with 9:19 remaining in the third quarter.
Pierce added on another score 4 1/2 minutes later when he swept around left end and raced down the sideline on a 37-yard touchdown play.
The Gators tacked on another score when backup Emory Jones connected with Keon Zipperer on a 2-yard touchdown pass to make it 38-0 with 9:47 remaining.
