An defensive struggle for three quarters turned into a fourth-quarter shootout when Kansas State and Baylor collided Saturday in Waco, Texas.

When it turned into a who-has-the-ball-last affair, the Bears prevailed 37-34. Connor Martin -- who had missed previously attempts of 50, 38 and 49 yards -- kicked a 29-yard field goal with 8 seconds left to propel Baylor to the rollercoaster win.

The final points capped a flurry of scoring over the final 15 minutes: 20 for the Wildcats and 17 by the Bears.

Charlie Brewer headlined a huge offensive day for Baylor (4-2, 2-1 Big 12), passing for 296 yards. The Bears rushed for 261, paced by Trestan Ebner's 100 yards on 17 carries to help Baylor finish with 557 total yards and a whopping 38 first downs.

The Bears needed every bit of that offense to counter Wildcats running back Alex Barnes. He gashed the Bears for 250 rushing yards on 22 carries, buoyed by touchdown runs of 55, 34 and 48 yards. His last TD knotted the score 20-20 to set the stage for the dizzying final 14:51.

K-State quarterback Skylar Thompson gave his team the lead with a 52-yard jaunt at the 10:38 juncture of the fourth. But Baylor answered with consecutive scores -- Brewer's 21-yard pass to Denzel Mims and Craig Williams' 21-yard touchdown burst.

Dalvin Warmack hauled in a 28-yard touchdown throw from Thompson to pull the Wildcats even, 34-34 with 4:26 to go.

The Bears worked the clock on their last drive, using 4:18 on 12 plays. Brewer hit 5-of-5 through the air for 44 yards after kick-starting the game-winning drive with a 10-yard run.

Baylor overcame a 14-12 halftime deficit. The Bears trailed despite racking up 313 first-half yards.

The Wildcats (2-4, 0-3) flipped the script in the second half, gaining 310 yards to Baylor's 254.

All five of K-State's touchdown drives were 2 1/2 minutes or less. The Bears' defense helped keep the game in reach with eight tackles for loss, four sacks and 21 points off of three Wildcats turnovers.
