Ole Miss rallied from behind to knock off visiting Georgia Southern 37-27 Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, but saw quarterback Chad Kelly leave the game with what was initially described as a knee injury.
Georgia Southern jumped out to an early lead. Quarterback Kevin Ellison ran for a touchdown and threw for a touchdown in the first quarter, and Matt Breida answered an Ole Miss score with a 68-yard touchdown run that put Georgia Southern up 21-10 early in the second quarter.
But the Rebels stormed back behind Kelly, who ran for a touchdown and closed out the first half with 38-yard touchdown pass to tight end Evan Engram that gave Ole Miss a 31-21 lead at the break.
Kelly finished 16 of 23 for 226 yards and the touchdown to Engram before suffering a hard hit after a pass in the third quarter and leaving the game.
The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Rebels (4-5), who return to SEC play next week at No. 4 Texas A&M.
Breida finished with 100 yards rushing. The Eagles (4-5) had 267 yards on the ground overall.
Ellison completed 7 of 16 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown to Myles Campbell.
