Tech 27: Trevone Boykin threw for 433 yards and seven touchdowns as
the host Horned Frogs set a school record for points in routing the
Red Raiders.
Boykin was 22-of-39 without an interception for TCU (6-1, 3-1 Big 12), which
finished with a school-record 785 yards of total offense. Deante' Gray made four catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns, Josh Doctson and
Kolby Listenbee each had four receptions for 76 yards, and Aaron Green
and Trevorris Johnson each rushed for 105 yards for the Horned Frogs with one and two TDs, respectively.
Davis Webb was 15-of-30 for 300
yards with two touchdowns and an interception for Texas Tech (3-5,
1-4). Devin Lauderdale made three catches for 81 yards and a score while DeAndre Washington rushed 13 times for 77 yards.
The Red Raiders jumped on top
quickly, going 75 yards in 51 seconds on their game-opening drive that was capped by Kenny Williams' 57-yard touchdown reception, but the Horned Frogs
scored 24 of the next 27 points - including two Boykin-to-Doctson TDs - to go up by 14 late in the first quarter. Lauderdale's
56-yard touchdown catch in the final minute of the quarter
pulled Texas Tech within seven, but Boykin found Gray from 24 yards out and
Jaden Oberkrom kicked a pair of field goals to increase the lead to 17 by
halftime.
TCU erupted for 24 points in the
first 7:09 of the third quarter, a stretch highlighted by Gray's 92-yard touchdown catch and Ty
Slanina's 57-yard reception for a score, to turn the game into a rout. Boykin's seventh TD pass - a 12-yard toss to Emanuel Porter - made it 68-27 at the end of the third, and Johnson's two scoring runs in the fourth helped the Frogs set the school record for points in
a game, as well as the most by an FBS school this season.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas Tech's 10-7
lead in the first quarter marked the first time TCU has
trailed in the opening period this season. … The previous scoring
record at TCU was 69 points in a 2011 win over New
Mexico. … TCU S Chris Hackett and Texas Tech WR D.J. Polite-Gray both were ejected late in the third quarter for
throwing punches.
