No. 22 Texas 31, No. 20 Texas Tech 22: David Ash overcame a poor second half with a touchdown pass to Mike Davis early in the fourth quarter as the visiting Longhorns maintained their dominance over the Red Raiders.

Ash finished with 264 yards passing while Davis notched four receptions for 165 yards and two long scoring strikes for Texas (7-2, 4-2 Big 12), which has won 12 of its last 14 against Texas Tech (6-3, 3-3).

Pulled from last week’s 21-17 victory over one-win Kansas after throwing two interceptions, Ash was nearly flawless early as he connected on nine of his first 10 pass attempts – including a beautiful 75-yard touchdown throw to Davis over the middle of the field – as the Longhorns built a 24-13 halftime lead.

However, Ash misfired on seven of his next eight attempts as the Texas offense sputtered throughout the third quarter, allowing the Red Raiders to pull within 24-22 on a field goal and Seth Doege’s first touchdown pass of the game, but Texas Tech’s two-point try failed. Two drives later, Ash hit Davis on a 25-yard fade pattern and the Longhorns blocked a late field-goal attempt to preserve the win.

Doege threw for 329 yards and Kenny Williams added 71 yards rushing and another touchdown for Texas Tech.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas’ fourth-quarter field-goal block was its second of the season and NCAA-best seventh blocked kick of the season. … Longhorns sophomore LB Kendall Thompson left the game early in the fourth quarter after taking an apparent helmet-to-helmet shot from the Red Raiders’ Will Smith on a punt return. He did not return. … Texas ended its nine-game losing skid against ranked opponents.
