Josh Harris scored on a 16-yard run on the Demon Deacons' first play from scrimmage and freshman Chad Hedlund kicked three field goals as Wake Forest registered a rare road victory over the Cavaliers.

Hedlund's final field goal - a 24-yarder with 4:15 left in the third quarter - gave the Demon Deacons (4-3, 2-3 ACC) a 16-7 lead en route to only their second victory in their last 13 trips to Charlottesville. Harris' touchdown out of the Wildcat formation came one play after Lovell Jackson's 60-yard punt return.

Phillip Sims' 13-yard touchdown pass to Tim Smith capped a 13-play, 72-yard drive and tied the game with 20 seconds left in the first half. Wake Forest got the ball back at the Virginia 45 following a personal foul penalty on the kickoff and Tanner Price connected with Brandon Perry for 41 yards to set up Hedlund's 22-yard field goal with 3 seconds left to make it 10-7.

Virginia (2-6, 0-4), which was held to 48 yards rushing, closed to 16-10 on Ian Frye's 30-yard field goal with 43 seconds left in the third quarter. Sims finished 22-of-39 for 253 yards.

Price was 7-of-19 for 102 yards, and Wake Forest was only 1-of-15 on third-down conversions while Virginia finished 8-of-20. The Demon Deacons sealed the victory when Joe LaBarbera recovered Khalek Shepherd's fumble following a punt with 2:08 remaining.
