D.J. Harper rushed for two touchdowns and Jerrell Gavins returned a fumble for a score as the No. 22 Broncos cruised to their sixth consecutive victory by beating visiting Nevada-Las Vegas.

Jay Ajayi also rushed for a touchdown and Boise State (6-1, 3-0 Mountain West) held the Rebels to 210 total yards while winning its 47th consecutive game in October dating back to a 2001 loss to Rice.

UNLV (1-7, 1-2) avoided the shutout when Kenneth Penny scored on a 30-yard fumble return with 9:30 remaining but the Rebels lost their 19th straight road game and slipped to 5-28 under third-year coach Bobby Hauck.

Harper scored on a 10-yard scamper in the opening quarter and a 1-yard run in the third, the latter boosting Boise State’s lead to 32-0.

Ajayi scored on a 4-yard run with 4:09 left in the first half to give the Broncos an 18-point advantage. Gavins picked up a fumble and cruised to a 16-yard touchdown 50 seconds later.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Boise State defensive end Demarcus Lawrence (team-high 5.5 sacks) was suspended for the contest because of an unspecified violation of team rules. … UNLV’s Tim Cornett rushed for 61 yards to raise his career total to 2,046, becoming the sixth player in school history to top 2,000 rushing yards. … The Broncos haven’t allowed a first-half point in their last five games.
