Virginia Tech 37, Bowling Green 0
: Logan Thomas had two passing touchdowns and another on the ground, all in the second quarter, as the Hokies rebounded from a bad loss by routing the visiting Falcons.

Thomas, who completed just 14 of 31 passes and had a career-high three interceptions in last Saturday's 35-17 loss at Pittsburgh, was only 11-for-26 for 144 yards in this one but made the completions count and rushed for 65 yards. Virginia Tech (3-1) amassed 246 rushing yards overall.

Bowling Green (1-3) entered with the 114th-ranked scoring offense in the country and did nothing to improve itself in that category. Matt Schilz was 9-for-25 for just 87 yards and an interception before being replaced by freshman Matt Johnson late in the third quarter. The Falcons punted eight times, had one missed field goal and recorded the bulk of their 266 total yards in garbage time.

Up 7-0 early, Thomas needed only three plays before he found Dyrell Roberts for a 42-yard TD. Thomas then capped a nine-play, 62-yard drive with a one-yard scoring plunge with 70 seconds left in the first half as the hosts carried a 21-0 lead into the break.

Michael Holmes had a 40-yard scamper and a 2-yard touchdown on the Hokies' first drive of the second half and the rout was on. Martin Scales added a 4-yard TD run in the fourth for Virginia Tech, which has recorded a shutout win in three straight seasons.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Virginia Tech kicker Cody Journell missed an extra point after a false start penalty following Holmes' TD. It was Journell's second missed PAT in 59 career attempts. ... Thomas has 13 career rushing touchdowns. He needs one more to tie Bruce Arians for fourth place on the all-time list for Hokies quarterbacks. ... Virginia Tech hosts Cincinnati next Saturday at FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins.
