Collin Klein threw one touchdown and ran for another as No. 17 Kansas State held on for a 17-13 victory over visiting Texas on Saturday.
Klein was held to only 121 total yards, but threw a 16-yard touchdown to Chris Harper just before halftime and had a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Klein, who entered averaging 251 total yards of offense, needs only two rushing touchdowns to tie Ricky Williams’ Big 12 record of 27 set in 1998.
The Wildcats (9-2, 6-2 Big 12) have won four straight and six of the last eight meetings with Texas (6-4, 3-4 Big 12), which nearly rallied after Case McCoy replaced an ineffective David Ash (7-of-16, 39 yards, two interceptions).
McCoy’s 36-yard touchdown pass to Blaine Irby cut the Wildcats’ lead to 17-10 with 3:43 left in the third. Justin Tucker pulled them closer with a 26-yard field goal with less than five minutes to play.
Texas has scored only one touchdown in the last two games.
