Chris Polk scored five touchdowns and became the first player in school history with 100 yards rushing and receiving in the same game as Washington recorded a 42-31 victory over visiting Arizona on Saturday.
Polk rushed for 144 yards and four touchdowns, including the go-ahead 6-yard score with 8:21 left, and caught four passes for 100 yards and a touchdown as Washington (6-2, 4-1 Pac-12 North) rebounded from a 44-point loss to Stanford.
Arizona (2-6, 1-5 Pac-12 South) took a 31-28 lead on a 23-yard field goal by John Bonano 44 seconds into the final quarter before Polk scored two touchdowns to cap a spectacular night in which he fell one TD shy of matching the Pac-12 single-game record shared by California’s Dick Dunn (1922) and USC’s Anthony Davis (1972).
Polk's 18th career 100-yard rushing game broke Napoleon Kaufman’s school record. Polk also reached 1,000 yards for the third consecutive season to join Kaufman as the only Washington players to do so.
Nick Foles passed for 388 yards for Arizona, which dropped to 1-1 under interim coach Tim Kish. Foles threw touchdown passes of 24 and 9 yards to Juron Criner.
Washington led 21-13 after Polk caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Keith Price less than two minutes into the third quarter.
The Wildcats tied the score when Robert Golden grabbed an interception off a deflection and spectacularly ran it 91 yards for a score and Foles hit David Douglas on a 2-point conversion throw.
