Host Oregon State exploded for 27 points in the second quarter and held off Arizona’s furious second-half rally to win 37-27.

In a battle of two teams desperate for their first conference victory, the Beavers (1-4, 1-2 Pac-12) won a mistake-filled game.

Leading 30-27 midway through the fourth quarter, Oregon State sealed the win on Sean Mannion’s 2-yard touchdown pass to Joe Halahuni.

Ending a six-game skid dating to last year, Oregon State made an interception, recovered a fumble, blocked a punt and converted a fake punt in the first half.

After its disastrous first half, Arizona (1-5, 0-4 Pac-12) stormed back with 21 unanswered points before losing its eighth straight conference game.

Wildcats quarterback Nick Foles was 29-of-39 passing for 354 yards despite losing top receiver Juron Criner to a knee injury in the first half. Mannion finished 32-of-41 passing for 267 yards.

Oregon State has won 11 of the last 13 meetings, with Arizona coach Mike Stoops likely on the hot seat after Saturday’s defeat.
