Cierre Wood rushed for a career-best 191 yards and Tommy Rees passed for three touchdowns as Notre Dame coasted to its third consecutive victory, 38-10 over host Purdue on Saturday.
The Fighting Irish (3-2) dominated from the outset and outgained the Boilermakers 551-276. Notre Dame, which came into the game with an FBS-high 15 turnovers, did not give the ball away.
Critical early mistakes doomed the Boilermakers (2-2). Notre Dame's Gary Gray intercepted Caleb TerBush on the game's first play from scrimmage to set up a 35-yard scoring pass from Rees to Michael Floyd 24 seconds into the game. Purdue was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after stopping the Irish on third-and-goal to set up another touchdown in the first quarter.
Wood made it 21-0 with 9:06 left in the second quarter when he broke loose for a career-long 55-yard run. Rees, who completed 24-of-40 passes for 254 yards, broke the game open in the third period with touchdown passes to Tyler Eifert and TJ Jones.
Floyd finished with 12 receptions for 137 yards. Jonas Gray added 94 yards rushing and a touchdown for Notre Dame.
The teams combined for 21 penalties totaling 203 yards.
Robert Marve replaced TerBush for Purdue late in the first half, but TerBush returned in the fourth quarter to direct the Boilermakers to their touchdown with 21 seconds left.
