Quarterback Zach Collaros had more than 300 yards of total offense as visiting Cincinnati shook off a very sloppy first half to pull away for a 27-0 victory over Miami of Ohio on Saturday.
It was the sixth straight win for Cincinnati in the 116th Battle for the Victory Bell, the longest streak in the series that dates back to 1888.
The Bearcats (4-1) came into the game with two turnovers and an NCAA-best plus-14 turnover ratio, but had two fumbles and an interception in the first half. Miami (0-4) couldn’t do anything with the gifts against the Cincinnati defense, which had five sacks and stopped the run all day.
Collaros threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce with 6:08 left in the first half for a 6-0 halftime lead and his 72-yard strike to Adrien Robinson set up the second touchdown early in the third. Collaros threw for 251 yards and ran for 89.
Running back Isaiah Pead notched his seventh and eighth touchdowns for the Bearcats, who matched their win total in 2010.
Miami’s Nick Harwell caught six passes for 149 yards, his third straight 100-yard game. The RedHawks were at the Cincinnati 1-yard line early in the third quarter, but settled for a missed field goal.
