Tyson Gale intercepted a pass late in the fourth quarter that led to the go-ahead score for Marshall as it rallied for a 17-13 win over Louisville on Saturday.

Trailing 13-10 with less than five minutes remaining, the Thundering Herd (2-3) forced the Cardinals and true freshman quarterback Teddy Bridgewater into a third-and-9 from their own 20. As Bridgewater rolled out of the pocket, he threw an ill-advised pass along the right sideline, which was intercepted by Gale on a diving catch at the 30.

Marshall needed just five plays to take the lead as Rakeem Cato threaded a pass to C.J. Crawford in the left flat for the go-ahead touchdown.

Bridgewater had one last shot to rally Louisville (2-2) from its own 40, but was intercepted by Omar Brown.

Bridgewater, who was making his first career start, gave the Cardinals a shot of energy to tie the game at 7-7 late in the second quarter when he escaped pressure in the pocket, rolled left and hurdled a defender on his way to the end zone on a 9-yard scramble.

Marshall kicker Tyler Warner missed a 48-yard attempt on the next drive, leaving Bridgewater with 87 seconds in the half to lead Louisville on another scoring drive. It turned out to be more than enough time as Bridgewater needed only three plays and 54 seconds to cover 69 yards, highlighted by Victor Anderson’s 41-yard touchdown reception.

Justin Haig added a late third-quarter field goal to narrow the gap to 13-10 and set the stage for Marshall’s late heroics.
