It took Texas Tech and Nevada the first quarter to get warmed up Saturday night, but once they got rolling, the offenses ruled the night as Texas Tech claimed a 35-34 non-conference win.
Red Raider quarterback Seth Doege hit Eric Ward on a 4-yard touchdown pass with 36 seconds left in the game to give Texas Tech (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) the win in a game that saw the teams combine for more than 1,000 yards in total offense.
In a game of big plays and long scoring drives, the Wolfpack used a quarterback rotation of Tyler Lantrip and Cody Fajardo, while Doege continued his impressive early season performance, completing 23 of 38 passes for 222 yards and 3 touchdowns.
After a scoreless first quarter, the teams traded long scoring drives in the second quarter in just the second meeting between the schools..
Doege put Texas Tech up 7-0 with 9:32 to play in the second quarter when he hit Ward on a 2- yard touchdown pass, capping an 80-yard, 12-play drive.
Texas Tech closed to within 31-28 with 9:39 left to play in the fourth quarter when Eric Stephens scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.
A 21-yard field goal by Anthony Martinez with 4:49 to play gave the Wolfpack (1-2, 1-0 WAC) a 34-28 lead before Doege’s game-winning strike to Ward.
