No. 3 LSU’s defense dominated, lifting the Tigers to a big SEC road win over No. 25 Mississippi State on Thursday.
Jarrett Lee threw a touchdown pass to Rueben Randle and Drew Alleman kicked four field goals in LSU’s 19-6 victory over the Bulldogs.
It’s the 12th straight win for LSU over Mississippi State. The Bulldogs have not beaten an SEC West team other than Ole Miss in coach Dan Mullen’s three seasons.
LSU’s defensive front lived in the Mississippi State backfield, recording 15 tackles for loss, including four sacks. The Bulldogs entered the game averaging 321 yards on the ground but managed just 48 Thursday.
The Tigers' secondary was equally impressive, blanketing the Mississippi State receivers and picking off two passes, both by Morris Claiborne.
LSU has won the turnover battle 11-2 in its last three games against Mississippi State.
Lee had his streak of consecutive passes without an interception snapped at 131 in the fourth quarter. But the Bulldogs followed the pick with a three-and-out and never threatened again. Lee completed 21-of-27 passes for 213 yards.
Derek DePasquale's two field goals accounted for Mississippi State's points.
