Arkansas running back Knile Davis rushed for three touchdowns as the host Razorbacks outlasted quarterback Jermiah Masoli and Ole Miss, 38-24, in Saturday’s weather-delayed SEC affair.
Davis totaled 177 yards on 22 carries, including the final score from 22 yards out to close the game’s scoring with 7:15 left, as the 21st-ranked Hogs held off a furious Rebels rally from an early 21-0 deficit.
The loss spoiled an impressive effort by Masoli, who completed 21 of 36 passes for 327 yards for three touchdowns without an interception and ran for 92 more yards to keep his team close.
Razorbacks quarterback Ryan Mallett, who had suffered a concussion a week earlier, started the game on a shaky note with an interception on his team’s first play from scrimmage. But he settled down to complete 13 of 24 attempts for 199 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game with an injury to his throwing shoulder.
The onset of lightning in the third period delayed the game for 58 minutes. Another weather delay followed in the fourth.
Arkansas improved to 5-2, 2-2 in the SEC. Ole Miss fell to 3-4, 1-3.
