Vai Taua scored three touchdowns as No. 23 Nevada pulled away from San Jose State 35-13 in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday night.

The Wolf Pack, a 37-point favorite, led 21-13 at the half, but shut out the Spartans the rest of the way to move to 6-0 on the season.

Taua totaled 197 yards on 16 carries.

Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick scored a pair of touchdowns on the ground in the first half. His first touchdown on a 13-yard rush opened the scoring.

San Jose State (1-5) tied the game at 7-7 on a 13-yard run by Brandon Rutley. But Kaepernick answered with a 20-yard touchdown run and the Wolf Pack never looked back.

Nevada defeated San Jose State 62-7 last year, but the Spartans were a bit more stubborn this time. The Wolf Pack amassed 641 total yards despite turning the ball over twice.
