Jermaine Thomas ran for two first-half touchdowns and the Florida State defense did the rest in overwhelming host Virginia 34-14 on Saturday.

Thomas rushed for second-quarter scores of 70 and 10 yards to pace the Seminoles (4-1, 2-0), who rolled to an insurmountable 27-0 halftime lead at Scott Stadium.

That was more than enough for a staunch Florida State defense that limited the Cavaliers to 42 yards of total offense before the break. Virginia (2-2, 0-1) failed to convert any of its' seven third-down opportunities and managed just four first downs in the first half.

Struggling Virginia quarterback Marc Verica completed 14 of 30 passes for 209 yards, with two interceptions. He was sacked four times before giving way to Ross Metheny in the fourth quarter.

The surging Seminoles visit Miami next week, while the Cavaliers look to rebound at Georgia Tech.
