Ben Chappell threw a career-best four touchdown passes to lead Indiana to a 35-20 non-conference victory over visiting Akron on Saturday.

Chappell threw two touchdown passes to tight end Ted Bolser and completed 23 of 33 for 342 yards as the Hoosiers improved to 3-0.

Patrick Nicely threw two touchdowns for Akron (0-4), both to Jeremy LaFrance.

All four of Chappell’s TD throws came in the first half, which ended with the Hoosiers leading 28-13.

Chappell hit Bolser on scores of 10 and 8 yards in the opening quarter and threw second-quarter touchdown passes of 2 yards to Max Dedmond and 16 yards to Terrance Turner.

Turner caught six passes for a career-high 121 yards.

Tandon Doss added a 9-yard scoring run in the third quarter for Indiana.

LaFrance caught scoring passes of 28 and 18 yards, the latter of which pulled Akron within 35-20 with about 13 minutes remaining.

Nicely finished 15 of 27 for 175 yards.
