Florida gave No. 1 Alabama something to think about this week – Trey Burton.
Burton, the Gators’ change-of-pace freshman quarterback, scored five touchdowns, fueling a 48-14 rout of Kentucky, Saturday in Gainesville, Fla.
The win is Florida's 24th straight over the Wildcats and sets up a huge primetime showdown at Alabama next week. The top-ranked Crimson Tide came from behind to win at Arkansas on
Saturday. Alabama handled Tim Tebow and Florida 32-13 in last year’s SEC
Championship Game. But Tebow's no Burton.
Burton rushed for four touchdowns and caught another, as the Gators (4-0) put together their most complete game of the season. He also completed his only pass for 42 yards.
Florida led 21-7 at half and put the game away on a 3-yard touchdown run by Burton that put the Gators up 41-14 early in the fourth quarter.
Starting Gator quarterback John Brantley completed 24 of 35 passes for 248 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Kentucky (3-1) travels to Ole Miss next week.
