Saturday’s nationally televised showdown between Oklahoma and Florida State quickly put to rest two commonly-held misconceptions.

The notions that something was amiss with the OU defense and that Florida State was fully back as a national power can now both be dismissed as premature following the Sooners’ impressive 47-17 dismantling of their visitors Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Sophomore quarterback Landry Jones carved up the Seminoles defense for 321 of his 380 yards and three of his four touchdown passes, all in the decisive first half as No. 10 Oklahoma (2-0) easily extended the nation’s longest home winning streak to 32 games.

The 17th-ranked Seminoles (1-1), who host BYU next week, missed too many tackles and lacked a steady pass rush, The Sooners took advantage with three first-half touchdown drives of at least 80 yards and five scoring marches of at least 49 yards.

OU finished with 487 yards after breaking the game open with 37 consecutive points at one stretch.

FSU quarterback Christian Ponder completed just 11-of-28 passes for 113 yards and two interceptions without a touchdown.
