For the second straight game, it was the Arkansas defense shutting down the opponent as the No. 15 Razorbacks defeated Louisiana-Monroe 31-7 in Little Rock.

Arkansas junior quarterback Ryan Mallett threw for 401 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score.

The game was recognized as a home game for Louisiana-Monroe, so the Warhawks (0-2) could count the attendance to its home season average in order to stay above the minimum requirement for FBS status. The win improved Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino’s record in Little Rock to 5-0.

After holding Tennessee Tech to 187 yards and a field goal the week before, the Hogs (2-0) allowed Louisiana-Monroe only 192 yards and a touchdown.

Arkansas’ offense had a difficult time putting points on the scoreboard until the final quarter. Mallett passed to Greg Childs for a 19-yard touchdown late in the first quarter; however, that was the game’s lone score of the first half. Childs finished with 12 catches, which tied for the third most in team history for a single game.

Midway through the third quarter, Mallett ran for only his third rushing touchdown as a Razorback, giving Arkansas a 14-0 lead.

The Hogs pulled away in the final quarter on a Zach Hocker field goal and two Mallett touchdown passes. Mallett continued his Heisman candidacy by completing 28-of-43 passes. It was his third 400-yard passing game in only 15 games at Arkansas.

For the first time since October 2006, the Razorbacks held consecutive opponents to seven points or fewer.
