Christian quarterback Andy Dalton and a bad snap ended
any hope No. 22 Oregon State had of upsetting the No. 7 Horned Frogs on
Saturday at Cowboys Stadium. TCU won the season opener for both teams 30-21.
A safety with 4:14 left gave TCU a 30-21 lead
after a shotgun snap went over the head of Beavers quarterback Ryan Katz’ as he appeared to be
changing the play. The loose ball was kicked out the back of the end
zone by Katz as the TCU defense converged.
Earlier, Oregon State had managed to tie the game at 21
when Jacquizz Rodgers finished off an 8-play, 87-yard drive with a
1-yard touchdown with 5:33 remaining in the third quarter.
TCU immediately answered as the Horned Frogs
went 12 plays and 71 yards, culminating when Dalton scored on a 3-yard, third-down run with 1:11 left in the third.
Dalton finished the day 17 of 27 through the air for 176 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He added 62 yards on
the ground on 15 attempts and two scores. Running back Ed Wesley had
136 yards and a touchdown on 17 attempts for TCU.
Rodgers was Oregon State’s top offensive player as he finished with 75 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown.
