Kevin Riley threw for three touchdowns and 259 yards as California hammered UC-Davis 52-3 in the season opener for both teams in Berkeley, Calif., on Saturday.

Riley connected with Shane Vereen on a 23-yard scoring strike late in the first quarter to open the scoring. On the Golden Bears' next possession, he found Marvin Jones open over the middle from 17 yards out to make it 14-0.

Cal was off to the races after that.

The Golden Bears out-gained UC-Davis 520-80 and had 27 first downs to the Aggies' three.

Vereen scored two more times in the first half -- both on 7-yard runs. Keenan Allen scored on an 18-yard scamper as Cal built a 35-0 halftime lead. Beau Sweeney also scored on a 3-yard run.

Josh Reese led the Aggies' woeful ground attack with 10 yards on 10 carries. Quarterback Randy Wright had just as little success, hitting 8-of-22 passes for 58 yards.
