Jacory Harris threw for 216 yards and three touchdowns – all in the first half- and 13th ranked Miami opened its 2010 season with a 45-0 thrashing of Florida A&M on Thursday.
Leonard Hankerson caught a pair of scores and Ray-Ray Armstrong returned an interception for a TD for the Hurricanes, who face No. 2 Ohio State next week in what will serve as early-season measuring stick for Randy Shannon’s talented team.
As expected, Miami (1-0), which was picked to finish second overall in the Atlantic Coast Conference, easily handled Florida A&M for the eighth straight year. The Hurricanes have outscored the Rattlers 264-46 in that span.
Led by Harris, a Heisman Trophy candidate, the Hurricanes scored on each of their first four possessions. Harris hit Hankerson for touchdowns of 19 and 40 yards on the first two drives. He added another 40 yard scoring pass to running back Damien Berry.
Miami outgained the Rattlers, 259-70 and led 35-0 at the half. Harris finished 13-of-16 in the half, then watched the rest of the game from the sideline.
Hankerson, Harris’ main target, caught six passes for 115 yards.
