Alouettes 21, Stampeders 17: Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 206 yards and rushed for a touchdown as Montreal rallied for a victory over visiting Calgary to clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2014.

Adams returned from a one-game suspension to complete 18-of-29 passes and Mario Alford returned a punt for a touchdown in his first game with the Alouettes (8-6), who blanked the Stampeders in the second half. William Stanback gained 61 yards on the ground and Eugene Lewis hauled in four passes for 86 yards to lead Montreal, which has won five of its last seven games.

Bo Levi Mitchell was 31-of-43 for 464 yards and a TD but threw an interception and Calgary (9-6) coughed up a 10-point lead to miss a chance to remain at least tied for first in the West Division. Josh Huff had nine receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown while Don Jackson rushed for 58 yards and a score for the Stampeders, who have lost five of their last six visits to Montreal.

Adams capped the Alouettes' first drive by rushing for a 1-yard touchdown, but Calgary responded with a long drive of its own that ended with Jackson's 5-yard TD run. Rene Paredes gave the Stampeders the lead with a 12-yard field goal and Mitchell connected with Huff on a 28-yard scoring strike before Boris Bede's 11-yard kick to pull Montreal within 17-10 at intermission.

Alford brought back a punt 85 yards for his first CFL touchdown early in the second half as Montreal tied the game and, after fumbles halted two Stampeders' drives, Bede's punt forced a rouge that gave Montreal an 18-17 edge after three quarters. Calgary stopped the Alouettes on downs at its 17, but Bede nailed a 25-yard field goal after a punt with 2:14 remaining and the Stampeders did not have an answer.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Huff, who made 20 catches for the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles in 2015, entered Saturday with only 162 receiving yards for Calgary this year. … Montreal LT Tony Washington was carted off the field in the first half with what appeared to be a serious lower-body injury and did not return. … Mitchell on Saturday became the 18th player in CFL history with at least 2,000 completions at 2,029. … Bede has made 12 consecutive field goals. … Calgary will be without RB Ka'Deem Carey (arm) and WR Markeith Ambles (ankle) for the rest of the season while LB Cory Greenwood (stinger) was placed on the 6-game injured list this week.
