Stampeders 26, Argonauts 16: Nick Arbuckle threw a pair of touchdown passes and the defense forced six turnovers as Calgary handed visiting Toronto its fifth straight loss to open the season.
Arbuckle completed 20-of-30 passes for 191 yards with two interceptions and the two touchdown strikes to Juwan Brescacin, who hauled in five passes for 64 yards for the Stampeders (3-2). Ka'Deem Carey finished with 95 yards from scrimmage for Calgary, which picked off four passes and recovered two fumbles - including one that Tre Roberson returned for a touchdown.
McLeod Bethel-Thompson was 32-for-42 for 343 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but his four interceptions contributed to the Argonauts' 11th straight regular-season loss against the Stampeders. James Wilder Jr. had 115 yards from scrimmage and a receiving touchdown while Armanti Edwards made five catches for 77 yards and a score for Toronto (0-5).
Tyler Crapigna gave the Argonauts the lead with a 50-yard field goal before Arbuckle threw a short pass over the middle to Brescacin, who zipped 20 yards for a touchdown as the Stampeders moved in front 7-3 after one quarter. Calgary pushed the lead to eight points before Alden Darby intercepted Arbuckle deep in Toronto territory and the Argonauts closed the gap to 11-9 at halftime on Bethel-Thompson's 11-yard scoring strike to Edwards.
Roberson scooped up a fumble by Edwards and ran 93 yards for a touchdown before Arbuckle connected with Brescacin for an 8-yard score to give the Stampeders a 26-9 advantage, but Bethel-Thompson's 15-yard TD pass to Wilder closed the gap after three quarters. Toronto moved inside Calgary's 30-yard line midway through the fourth quarter before Wilder lost a fumble and the Argonauts fell for the 14th time in their last 15 games, dating back to 2018.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Calgary LB Cory Greenwood made an interception, as well as a key fumble recovery in the fourth quarter. ... Argonauts RB Chris Rainey passed Keith Stokes (9,163 yards) for 10th place on the CFL's all-time list for return yards with 9,266. … Brescacin, who had 68 yards receiving in the season opener against Ottawa, was returning to the lineup after missing two games due to injury. … Wilder went over 3,000 career yards from scrimmage Thursday with 3,056.
