Nichols completed 13-of-21 passes for 200 yards while Nic Demski rushed for 49 yards and a touchdown to help the Blue Bombers improve to 2-0. Lucky Whitehead hauled in seven passes for 155 yards and a pair of scores while Andrew Harris had a TD reception for Winnipeg, which has won seven of its last 10 home games dating back to the start of 2018.

Trevor Harris was 35-of-54 for 345 yards and Sean Whyte kicked seven field goals for the Eskimos, who fell to 2-1 on the season. Kenny Stafford caught eight passes for 108 yards and Ricky Collins Jr. gained 107 on eight receptions for Edmonton, which couldn't overcome 10 penalties for 118 yards.

Demski powered his way into the end zone from 7 yards out on a drive that was aided by three Edmonton penalties before Whitehead hauled in a 75-yard TD pass from Nichols to put Winnipeg in front 14-3 after one quarter. The Eskimos drove into the red zone twice but had to settle for a pair of field goals (20 and 10 yards) from Whyte before he drilled a 45-yarder as time expired in the first half to cut the deficit to two points.

Nichols threw a 5-yard scoring strike to Harris and Whitehead turned a short pass into a 41-yard touchdown with 4:26 remaining in the third quarter to help the Blue Bombers extend their lead to 28-12. Whyte tacked on three more field goals (31, 37, 33 yards) to pull the Eskimos within a touchdown with 2:02 left in the fourth, and they had a chance to tie the game following a fumble by Andrew Harris, but Chandler Fenner broke up a pass on third down with 16 seconds remaining to preserve the win.
