Roughriders 27, Tiger-Cats 19: Backup Brandon Bridge threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns as visiting Saskatchewan took a big lead before holding off a rally by Hamilton for its fourth win in five games.
Bridge completed 21-of-31 attempts after taking over for injured starter Kevin Glenn (hand) and connected with Devon Bailey, Naaman Roosevelt and Bakari Grant for touchdowns as the Roughriders (6-5) led by as many as 17 points. Grant hauled in six passes for 71 yards and Ed Gainey finished with a pair of interceptions for Saskatchewan, which held on the final play of the contest at its own 1-yard line.
Jeremiah Masoli went 28-of-48 for 328 yards and a TD and added another 62 yards on the ground but threw two interceptions and could not connect on the final play of the game. Jalen Saunders had a big day for the Tiger-Cats (2-9), registering 10 catches for 138 yards and a score, although Hamilton fell to 1-5 at home.
A fumble set up the only points of the first quarter - Tyler Crapigna's 15-yard field goal - before Bridge connected with Bailey for a 9-yard scoring strike early in the second for a 10-0 advantage. Another fumble led to Bridge's 9-yard touchdown pass to Grant with 8:44 left in the first half as the Roughriders pushed the lead to 17-0, but Masoli responded with a 36-yard TD strike to Saunders and Hamilton trailed 20-10 at intermission.
Bridge hit Roosevelt for a 23-yard touchdown early in the second half before two field goals by Sergio Castillo brought the Tiger-Cats within 27-16, but Gainey's league-leading eighth interception stalled a big drive deep in Saskatchewan territory early in the fourth quarter. Castillo's 22-yard field goal cut the deficit to 27-19 with 2:52 left and Hamilton drove to the Roughriders' 36 before giving up the ball on downs with under two minutes to go and failing again on its final opportunity.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Bridge is the first Canadian to pass for three scores in a game since Greg Vavra in 1984. … The Tiger-Cats have lost their last 11 games against West Division opponents. … Roughriders WR Duron Carter (ankle) left the game in the first half and saw his streak of touchdown receptions end at a franchise record-tying six games. … Hamilton WR Felix Faubert-Lussier (hip pointer) was scratched from the lineup. … Tiger-Cats DB Demond Washington was disqualified from the game in the second half for spitting at an opponent.
