Driving relentlessly to the hoop, Jahmir Young scored 26 points to power Maryland to a 64-58 victory over Michigan Thursday night in College Park. Md.

In avenging its most decisive loss since joining the Big Ten in 2014, Maryland (12-6, 3-4) also got 10 points and five rebounds from Hakim Hart and nine points and eight boards from Donta Scott.

For Maryland, it was a satisfying turnaround from New Year's Day when Michigan scored the game's first 17 points on its way to a 81-46 romp in Ann Arbor.

The difference this time was points in the paint, where the Terps topped the Wolverines 42-22. All nine of Young's baskets came in the lane as he continually found cracks in the Wolverines' man-to-man defense.

The win also snapped Maryland's five-game losing skid against Michigan.

Responding to the taunts of a hostile crowd, Hunter Dickinson tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Michigan (10-8, 4-3). Jett Howard added 13 points and Terrance Williams II contributed nine points and 13 rebounds.

Dickinson, playing two miles from his alma mater, prep powerhouse DeMatha, has drawn the ire of Maryland fans by repeatedly criticizing the program for not recruiting him hard enough, even though the school offered him a scholarship.

It was a tie game with 11 minutes left but a seven-point run gave the Terps a lead they would not relinquish. Hart sparked the spree with a 3-pointer and finished it with a layup as Maryland took a 51-44 lead with 8:48 left.

Michigan pulled close, 60-56, on a putback by Dickinson with 42 seconds left, but Young hit 4 of 4 from the free throw line to keep Maryland in command.

Michigan got off to a cold start, hitting 3 of 13 shots and falling behind 17-6. Scott gave the Terps their biggest lead, 28-15, when he hit a fast-break 3-pointer with 6:32 left in the half.

But Michigan retaliated with hot shooting. After missing their first five 3-point tries, the Wolverines made 6 of 8, with Dickinson and Howard hitting two each, as they closed the gap to 34-32 at the break.

Michigan pulled even as Williams made a spinning layup in transition to make it 42-42 with 12:01 left. But the Wolverines never got the lead in the second half.
