Nijel Pack scored a game-high 17 points with five 3-pointers as Kansas State defeated Albany 71-43 Wednesday night in Manhattan, Kan.

Mark Smith chipped in with his second straight double-double, a season-high 14 points and 10 rebounds, for the Wildcats, who used a 35-12 stretch wrapped around halftime to pull away from a 17-17 tie.

Kansas State (4-2) shot 38.5 percent (10-for-26) from 3-point range, despite missing their last five. Selton Miguel, who missed the last game with an injury, also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Albany (1-6) was led by De'Vondre Perry with 11 points. The Great Danes shot 31.5 percent (17-for-54) from the field, including 1-for-18 from 3-point range.

The smaller Great Danes were dominated on the boards by K-State, which held a 48-27 rebounding edge.

K-State had trouble shaking the Great Danes early, mostly because of careless play on the offensive end. The Wildcats committed six turnovers in the first eight minutes, leading to a 12-11 Albany lead at the second media timeout. K-State finished the first half with 11 turnovers after totaling 16 in the last two games combined.

Neither team could find the basket early in the first half. K-State was the first team to hit the 20-point mark, but that didn't come until 6:06 remained in the first half.

K-State used an 11-0 run to take a 28-17 lead before finishing the half up 29-20. The Wildcats shot 45.5 percent in the half, while the Great Danes shot just 25 percent.

Pack led the Wildcats with eight points in the half, followed by Kaosi Ezeagu and Miguel with six points each. Albany was led by Jarvis Doles with five points.
