Caleb Love scored 22 points and sparked North Carolina's huge second half in a 72-51 victory against No. 24 Michigan on Wednesday night in Chapel Hill, N.C.

It was the first victory against a nationally ranked team under first-year coach Hubert Davis, whose team lost last month to Purdue and Tennessee on consecutive days. North Carolina improved to 4-0 in home games.

Michigan (4-3) never got untracked in the second half in the game that was part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

Dawson Garcia supplied 14 points and Armando Bacot had 11 points and 14 rebounds for North Carolina (5-2). Brady Manek came off the bench for nine points and teammate RJ Davis also had nine points.

Love had half of North Carolina's eight 3-point baskets. He also registered a game-high four assists.

Moussa Diabate scored 13 points and Eli Brooks provided 11 points for Michigan.

North Carolina won despite attempting just three free throws -- with Bacot and Love each going 1-for-1 at the foul line.

Michigan was charged with 13 turnovers compared to North Carolina's six giveaways.

Michigan managed only eight points across the first 10 minutes of the second half as North Carolina built a 48-35 lead.

The Wolverines were hampered by Hunter Dickinson's foul trouble. He sat out for more than 10 minutes with four fouls. The 7-foot-1 center finished with four points.

Michigan was 6-for-6 on foul shots, but shot 5-for-16 on 3-pointers.

Love's 3-pointer was the final basket of the first half, lifting North Carolina to a 29-27 lead. That was despite the Tar Heels shooting 36.1 percent from the field prior to the break. North Carolina, which didn't attempt a free throw in the first half, scored the last seven points of the half.

Michigan held a couple of five-point leads for the largest margin for either team in the first half.
