Izaiah Brockington scored 13 points, John Harrar added nine and 12 rebounds and Penn State shut down Maryland late to pull out a 55-50 home victory at University Park, Pa., on Friday.

Harrar dominated the second half for the Nittany Lions (7-8, 4-7 Big Ten) with nine points and nine rebounds while making 5 of 6 from the line. The Nittany Lions held the Terrapins to 35.4 percent shooting (17 of 48) for the game while forcing 16 turnovers to help offset a season-low 23 first-half points.

Penn State's leading scorer Myreon Jones was held to two points on 1 of 9 shooting and third-leading scorer Seth Lundy had two points on 1 of 8 from the floor.

The Lions shot 31.5 percent (17 of 54) for the game but corralled 10 of their 11 offensive rebounds in the second half and drained 16 of 18 free throws after not taking any free throws in the first half.

Eric Ayala kept Maryland (10-9, 4-8) in the game the whole night by matching his career high with 23 points. He shot 6 of 11 from the floor, made two 3-pointers and drained all nine free throws.

Donta Scott added nine points but Allan Wiggins, who entered averaging 12.8 points per game, scored two points on 1 of 11 shooting.

Jamari Wheeler snapped a 36-36 tie with a 3-pointer from the right corner that just beat the shot clock and the Lions led the rest of the way. Myles Dread hit a big 3-pointer to provide a seven-point lead with 4:34 left and Penn State forced 10 consecutive misses from the floor by Maryland to close out the win.

A 23-23 first half tie produced several droughts by both teams, who combined for 19 field goals against 16 turnovers. Ayala scored 10 points for the Terps while Wheeler and Brockington scored six apiece for the Lions.
