Ron Harper Jr. scored 27 points to pace No. 19 Rutgers to a 74-60 win over Maryland on Monday in a Big Ten Conference game in College Park, Md.

The Scarlet Knights (5-0) have won all five of their games by double digits for the first time since the 1934-35 season.

Harper, who scored 19 of his points in the second half, sank a 3-pointer at 2:10 of the second to put the Scarlet Knights ahead for good at 34-31. He had another 3-pointer in a pivotal 10-0 spurt that pushed the lead to 50-38 when Myles Johnson got loose for a dunk with 11:57 remaining.

The Terrapins (4-2) fell for the second straight game, and this one was a rare home loss. Maryland is 50-8 in Xfinity Center since the start of 2017-18, the best such mark in the Big Ten over that span.

Donta Scott led the Terrapins with 20 points and eight rebounds. Maryland shot just 34.4 percent (21 of 61) from the field.

Geo Baker, who returned from missing three games with an ankle injury, chipped in 15 points for Rutgers.

Johnson added 10 points and a career-high 16 rebounds as the Scarlet Knights' bench outscored Maryland's reserves by a 25-9 margin.

Eric Ayala had 12 points for Maryland.

The Terrapins trailed for much of the first half but led 28-27 at the break, chipping away late to overcome a 10-point deficit.

The Scarlet Knights went on a 10-0 run midway through the first half, culminating with Cliff Omoruyi's dunk at 6:46 to make it 23-13. The Terrapins went just over four minutes without a basket and shot just 34.6 percent (9 of 26) in the opening stanza.

The Knights, who won each of their first four games by double figures, missed 10 of their last 11 shots to squander their lead.

Rutgers has won two in a row over the Terrapins, but Maryland leads the all-time series, 11-5. The Terrapins won the first eight games after both teams joined the Big Ten in 2014.

This is Rutgers' first win at Maryland since Feb. 19, 1941. The Terrapins are 6-2 against the Knights in College Park all-time. The victory also marked Rutgers' first Big Ten opening win.
