Emmanuel Bandoumel's 3-pointer with 30.6 seconds left in overtime gave host SMU a 73-72 win over No. 20 Houston in an American Athletic Conference game Saturday night at Dallas.

Marcus Sasser, who made three free throws with three seconds left in regulation to force overtime, put Houston ahead 72-70 with a 3-pointer with 1:05 remaining in overtime.

Bandoumel, who had only four points at the time, responded with his shot from beyond the arc.

After running the clock to 11.8 seconds left, Houston called a timeout. Sasser drew a double team and passed to Caleb Mills, who missed a 3-pointer off the back of the rim. The ball went out of bounds off SMU with 0.5 seconds left.

Sasser grabbed the inbounds pass and shot off-balance from beyond the arc, and it banged out off the rim.

Tyson Jolly led four scorers in double figures for SMU with 20 points, making all 10 of his free throw attempts in the process. Feron Hunt had 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Isiaha Mike added 15 points and six rebounds, and Kendric Davis had 10 points and eight assists.

Houston was led by Sasser's 26 points. He had five 3-pointers and made all five of his free throws. DeJon Jarreau had 15 points before fouling out late in regulation.

SMU (18-6, 8-4 AAC) has won six out of its last eight games since losing at Houston on Jan. 15.

The Cougars (20-6, 10-3) had a three-game winning streak snapped. They are 6-4 on the road.

At the end of regulation, after Mills made a shot in the lane to cut the lead to 64-61 with 39 seconds left, SMU took the clock down to 16 seconds before calling a timeout. Davis missed a runner right before the shot clock ran out with nine seconds left.

Sasser was fouled by Davis while shooting a 3-pointer with three seconds left. Sasser made all three free throws to tie the game at 64.

Davis' shot in the lane at the buzzer of regulation fell short.
